EASTER CANDIDATES

SIEGMUND WORKING WELL (Special to “Chronicle.") WELLINGTON, April 12. Trentham horses were not given the amount ot fast work on the tracks this morning that might have been expected, considering their extensive programme ahead at Easter. The majority of the trainers are waiting for Thursday for the final serious trials. The weather was dull, and the grass track was used for the galloping.

Good Sun (R. L. Hitchen) anu Yours Truly (L. T. Nesbitt) ran hall a mile together in 49sec., with the two-year-old a shade in front. Good Sun is now tG tackle the main handicap at Tauherenikau, and Nesbitt will ride him and Yours Truly.

Sigurd (S. Wilson) and Debiiam (G. Flood) slipped over a brilliant six furlongs in 1.15 1-5, the last half-mile in 49 3-ssec. Both horses are very well. No rider has yet been secured for Debham.

Lady Lyric (R. A. Hawkings) and Twenty Grand (Wilson) took 49 4-5 sec. for half a mile.

Roaming (Hawkings) left Sunny Blonde (C. Sargent) two furlongs from home in their seven furlongs, and he beat the mare by a good two lengths in 1.29 4-5, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. They went the first part very fast. Sunny Blonde was closing the gap again at the end, but Roaming was doing it well. Roaming is to go to Feilding, where he will be ridden by A. Sagar, who has already won in the two races he has had on this horse.

Bodyline (Sagar) did an easy six furlongs in 1.21. Dancing Flame (Hawkings) ran half a mile in 49 2-5 sec. H. B. Lorigan’s riding at Tauherenikau will be done mainly by R. A. Hawkings, whose mounts will include Bodyline, Sunny Blonde, Dancing' Flame, and Lady Lyric, also Esperance Bay. Another stable apprentice, C. Sargent, may have his licence this week, in which case he will also be available for fight riding. Arctic King (Wilson) was not bustled in seven furlongs in 1.36 3.-5, the last half-mile in 55sec. Girl Pat (T. Young) came down from the three furlongs in 42sec. Gay Hunting (V. Bevan) took 52sec. for half a mile. Tom Tom (Bevan) ran the same distance in 52 2-ssec.

Jewish Lad (P. Burgess), after conceding Laggard (J. McCauley) a couple of lengths’ start, was pulling hard alongside his mate after running six furlongs in 1.20 2-5, the last halfmile in 53sec. Jewish Lad is now finishing on much better than formerly. Might (A. W. Sim>, starting oil from the six furlongs with Sunbeam (F. N. Power) and picked up by Southern Blood (Burgess) near the three furlongs, was in front throughout and he held Southern Blood off by a neck in 1.16 4-5., the last half-miie in 50 4-ssec. Sunbeam was three lengths back at. the finish.

Liane (A. E. Bennet) romped away from Galteemore (Doyle) at the eno of six furlongs in 1.17 3-5. ,the last half-mile in 51sec. Galteemore went one of his bad gallops in finishing four lengths astern, but he has done this before.

For Feilding Cup.

Alloa (Sim) was at one stage three lengths clear of Sigmund (McCauley? in a seven-furlong gallop, but near the close Siegmund put in his characteristic long strides to draw almost level at the post. The full distance took 1.31 2-5, and the last half-mile 52sec. Siegmund is galloping better than he ever has, but he is still without a rider in the Feilding Cup. Alloa went smoothly all the way. Alunga (Sim) was always going attractively in his five furlongs alone, the last half-mile in 49 3-ssec, The chestnut looks in capital ordei. Drchma (Bennet) came down the straight, and so did Floral Robe (R. D. Gerrand). Boomerang (Doyle) ran a mile in 1.45, the last half in 51sec. Bun Fight (Burgess) took 52 4-ssec. for half a mile.
