LOXDON BUTTER MARKET FIRM

CHEESE PRICES STEADY

The London butter market was firm at the end of last week, according to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board. Today’s closing prices, with those for the previous week in parentheses, were as follows:

New Zealand, salted, 118 s to 119 s (115 s to 116 s; a year ago, 100 s to 102 s); unsaited, 121 s to 122 s (118 s to 119 s; a year ago, 102 s to 104 s).

Australian, salted, 118 s to 119 s (115 s to 116 s); unsalted, 120 s to 121 s (118 s to 119 s).

Danish, 100 s f.0.b.; 122 s spot; (955,

Retail prices in London are unchanged, New Zealand at Is 2d to Is 3d, and Danish at Is 3d to Is 4d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week totalled 2748 tons. The quantity in store, including 843 tons ex Waiwera and Port Wyndham, was 5655 tons, as against 5944 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter were 1866 tons, the quantity in store being 3309 tons as against 5335 tons a year ago.

The basic rates fixed under the New Zealand guaranteed price scheme, subject to quality differentials, are 123 s 8d for butter, and 70s 4id for cheese, per cwt., f.0.b., New Zealand currency. The equivalent landed price for butter in London is 112 s and for cheese 675. The guaranteed price foi butter is equal to 13.25 d per lb., f.0.b., an’d the current London quotation is equal to 14.17 d., New Zealand ports. The equivalent price for cheese is around B.BBd per lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 7.54 d. English finest farmers’, 102 s to 104 s (98s to 104 s). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 14,227 crates. The quantity in store was 68,354 crates, as against 90,035 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 3980 boxes. The quantity in store was 69,158 boxes, as against 72,106 boxes a year ago.
