NAZI DISCIPLINE ON BOARD [ Per ”ress Association.] AUCKLAND, April 11. With the swastika flag of Germany flying from her stern post and the British mercantile marine flag at the forepeak, the 20,000-ton liner Reliance, of the Hamburg-American Line, berthed at about 8 o’clock this morning with 200 passengers, 60 of whom are Germans and the remainder Americans on a four and a half months’ world cruise. The last port of call was Melbourne.
The tourists are leaving to-day for Rotorua and other ts'orth Island resorts, rejoining the vessel at Wellington.
The Reliance is leaving Auckland on Thursday night. The officers and crew are German, but speak English, which they learnt in America. Nazi discipline is maintained on board, the Nazi salute being freely exchanged between the officers and men. Photographs of Herr Hitler and the late President Hindenburg decorate various parts of the vessel. The German passengers are allowed to carry only 200 dollars each for spending in the course of the cruise. The German officers are allowed only eight dollars monthiv.
