NIUE ISLANDERS
SATISFACTORY progress REPORTED [ Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 11. The natives of Niue Island are among the best in the Pacific Islands and are making satisfactory’ progress in various ways. These were the impressions obtained by Dr. S. Lambert, Government medical inspector for the Pacific Islands, who returned to Lyttelton last evening by the Maui Pomare after spending a month on Niue Island carrying out medical survey work. Dr. Lambert also stated that the medical staff at the island w’as doing good work and the administration staff was also undertaking its work with enthusiasm and obtained excellent results. The outcome was the natives were happy and contented. It was very noticeable that the natives were adjusting themselves rapidly to modern conditions. This was all the more surprising in view of the little 'ontact made with European people. Dr. Lambert has held his present position for the past 20 years.
