WRESTLING
NEW MAT SEASON
BLOMFIELD v. JENSEN WANGANUI NEXT TUESDAY The president of the Wanganui Wrestling Association, Mr. J. Goss, received advice yesterday that “Lofty” Blomfield and Lee Jensen (America) had been matched to wrestle in the Opera House, Wanganui, on Tuesday of next week. April 19. Blomfield arrives back from America on Friday next, and will have his first bout at Auckland on Monday. Jensen is a remarkably active matman who specialises in elbow jolts and flying tackles, but who has gained most of his victories with the back loop slam. Blomfield’s ability is well known to local enthusiasts and if Jensen can produce his best form (which is very formidable) the bout should be a spectacular affair.
BOUT AT WELLINGTON ANDY MOEN AND KENNEDY DRAW WELLINGTON, April 11. Two rough, virile, lawless professional wrestlers, Andy Moen and Jack Kennedy, drew at the Town Hall, Wellington, to-night in a bout which gave the referee quite a lot of hard work maintaining discipline. Both wrestlers possessed considerable stamina and throughout the eight rounds traded elbow-jolts, drop-kicks, flying tackles, deathlocks and other spectacular holds without either managing to take a fall.
It was a gruelling bout and one that appealed greatly to the taste of the large crowd.
