Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, April 5, 3 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure is high from south-eastern Australia across the South Tasman to beyond New Zealand. A depression is, however, located over the north-west Tasman near Norfolk Island, while a slight disturbance has been crossing the South Island. Forecast.—Winds: North-easterlies prevailing over most of the North Island, but south-easterlies or southerlies about and south of Cook Strait, force light to moderate but freshening somewhat, especially in the Cook Strait area. Seas (New Zealand waters): father rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate but laterrising in the Cook Strait area. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds between south-east and north-east, moderate to strong in the northern and central portions with rather rough to rough seas, elsewhere light to moderate with moderate seas. Weather: Mainly cloudy to overcast and humid. Scattered rains still probable and becoming more widespread. Light to moderate in most, cases but, with some heavy local falls.
