MATCH AT WANGANUI

UNIVERSITY'S GOOD LEAD HOME TEAM’S BOWLING FAILS Wanganui sadly lacked good bowling strength in the match opened yesterday against Victoria University on Cook’s Gardens. Wanganui batted first and the side was dismissed for a total of 226. University’s reply was a total of 300, the Wanganui attack lacking the necessary crispness to dislodge batsmen out to have a smack all round the wicket. Dark topped Wanganui's score with a useful 55, Hook, coming next with 52 and Connor with 47. Bowling for University Wilson took five wickets for 73 runs, Osborne three for 61. University’s total was contributed to mainly by Wilson, who hit up the commendable total of 101. His display caught the Wanganui bowling on the hop. Cornish (58), Wren (35), Lunn (31), and Clouston (24) also helped materially to give the visitors a good lead. Bowling for Wanganui McPhail took four wickets for 67, Neale three for 83 and Thomas two for 56. The match will be resumed this morning.Details:— Wanganui. First. Innings.
