Cricket Match. A representative cricket match will be commenced on Cook’s Gardens today between the Wanganui and Victoria University (Wellington) elevens. The match will be concluded to-mor-row. The Wanganui Boys’ Cricket Association representatives are at Hawera playing a series of matches against Taranaki boys. Harvest For Taxis.
Wanganui taxis had a very busy time on Christmas Eve, and more than one firm of owner-drivers found their fleet unable to cope with the demand at the peak hours. Again on Christmas Day, when no trams were running, taxis were in keen demand, and yesterday also they were busily engaged. One owner-driver remarked that he had worked twelve hours "straight” before he could snatch a meal, but he was careful to turn his car ovci to another driver when he commenced to feel fatigued. Not all the fares were for short distances, either, for several runs were made to Fordell, Wangaehu, Kai Iwi, Westmere and Brunswick, and one was as far as Marton.
