SHEEP DESTROYED
WORRIED BY ALSATIAN
WAIMALKU FARMER’S LOSS DOG SUBSEQUENTLY SHOT AUCKLAND, Dec. 22. A particularly bad case of sheepworrying, which resulted in the death of 15 sheep, was discovered by Mr. Allan Wintour on his farm at Waimauku early on Monday morning. The animal responsible was an Alsatian dog, which was shot. Mr. Wintour was aroused at about 5 o'clock by the barking of a dog and, taking a rifle, he went out with his son to investigate. They came across the Alsatian in a patch of scrub, standing over the body of a sheep which it had obviously just killed.
The animal refused to be frightened away by shouts, and when Mr. Wintour and his son approached it showed tight. Accordingly it was shot. A subsequent search disclosed that 13 sheep had been killed and nine injured, two of which died later. It is expected that the other seven sheep will recover.
