A HOLIDAY CENTRE

ROTORUA’S IMPROVED TOLL FACILITIES. “The telephone facilities of Rotorua will be considerably improved before the holiday period,” states the Post-master-General (the Hon. F. Jones) in announcing that the old single telephone channel between Auckland and Rotorua has been replaced by a high frequency carrier system giving three first-class toll circuits between these important centres. “With the increasing popularity of Rotorua as a holiday centre, the department’s toll traffic has grown beyond the capacity of the single circuit to Auckland and the trebling of these facilities will give the additional advantage of relieving Hamilton and Tauranga circuits which, in busy times, had been used for Rotorua business. The new arrangement,” concluded the Post-master-General, “has a far-reaching effect, because it will reduce delays on calls to Rotorua from places as far afield as Wellington and towns in the South Island.”
