Base metal shares derived some benefit from the improvement on the London and Wall Street markets, and a partial recovery was made on the local Exchange to-day. Industrials, however, continue to sell on the down grade. Small entries of fat stock at today’s Addington market met with an improved sale, particularly fat sheep and to a lesser extent fat cattle and fat lambs. The freezing works commenced operating this week and export buyers were in the market. Prices, however, were in advance of their rates, making from 9id to 9Sd. Store Sheep.—A much freere sale with a slight advance in prices for ewes and lambs. These were better class and sold for two-tooths at up to 255. Wethers were weak at from 17s to 19s. Fat Sheep.—A small penning of 350 head as against 660 last week met with a complete recovery in wether values of 2s a head and of ewes about 2s 6d. Best wethers made to 34s lOd, good 28s to 325, ordinary 23s to 265.. Best ewes sold at. up to 30s, good 24s ' to 275, average 18s to 21s, and light down to 16s. Fat Cattle.—soo were penned and for a small showing of good cattle last week’s drop of 20s a head was recovered. Medium sorts showed a little improvement’ but old cows were a shade weaker. Best young beef in a few instances made to 40s per 100 lbs, good 36s to 38s, and rough down to 265. Top price for steers was £l7 17s 6d, numerous pens selling at £l4 10s to £l6 10s with inferior down to £lO. Vealers sold at slightly lower rates and store cattle also eased on last week’s improved market. Fat pigs.—A heavy entry and with the export price easing slightly there was a weaker sale for porkers, which were down by 2s to 3s a head. Baconers were slightly easier. Porkers made from 32s 6d to 55s 6d. Average price per lb 6id to 7id. B. coners £3 9s 6d to £4 4s 6d, average 6ld per lb.
