OBITUARY
SIR CHARLES BRIGHT LONDON, Nov. 22. The death has occurred of Sir Charles Bright. Sir Charles Bright, Kt., F.R.S.E., M.lnst.C.E., M.1.E.E., was born in 1863, and was the youngest son of Sir Charles Tilston Bright, who was knighted at the age of 26 for laying the first Atlantic cable. He was a member of the National Committee for Radio-Telegraphy, and was professionally engaged on a number ot cable-laying expeditions. He Instigated in 1902 the Inter-Departmental Imperial Communications Committee, and in 1895 was the first to urge reduced cable rates for deferred messages, eventually adopted by the Government in 1912. He was closely concerned with the establishment ot coastal wireless stations and the application of wireless to aircraft. He wrote a number of books on the subject of telegraphy. FAMOUS PORTRAIT PAINTER [ British Official Wirelees.] RUGBY, Nov. 22. Mr. Phillip de Laszlo, the Hungar-ian-born portrait painter, who became a naturalised British subject in 1914, died to-day, aged 68. Mr. Laszlo painted Edward VII and many other notables. He was elected president of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1930.
