ROWING

UNION BOAT CLUB CLUB FOURS RACING ] The repecharge heats or the first round of the Union Boat Club's Club Fours were rowed last evening. Conditions on the river were excellent and two good races were witnessed. In the first race R. Gould won from H. Benge by a margin of two and ahalf lengths. Gould secured the lead early after the start and gradually increased his advantage over the remainder of the course. The second race, between H. Halkett and E. Day, was closely contested with the verdict in doubt until the final 50 yards. Both crews started off on level terms and rowed together until the baths were reached, when Halkett commenced to take the lead. He crossed the finishing line about three-quarters of a length in front of Day. The second round of the competition is to be rowed this evening, the draw being:— Halkett and Tonks v. Granville. Delves v. Gould.
