THE TURF

WANGANUI HORSES FEILDING CANDIDATES YESTERDAY'S TRACK WORK Wanganui horses claim several engagements at Feilding on Saturday, but not so many are entered for the second day of the meeting, which is to be held on Tuesday next. Yesterday morning those horses which will be racing at Feilding were galloped on the course proper, which is in good order and has benefited greatly from the recent rains. The Early Brigade.

Among the early-morning brigade were members of W. Rayner’s team. Imposture and Relative slipped over five furlongs in a tick under 64sec. They took 25sec. for the first two furlongs. Imposture is to run in the hack distance event at Feilding on Saturday, and Relative will take on the open sprinters in the Flying Handicap. Following the Feilding meeting-Relative will be taken to Woodville to rejoin the team trained by F. Davis, an arrangement which was made prior to Davis leaving for Australia with Courtcraft and other members of the team. Entail, who is to race at the Awapuni summer meeting, cantered over a circuit and then went once round at three-quarter pace. He had his trainer in the saddle.

Minga (W. Rayner) was doing it better than Fabric (F. Latham) at the end of three furlongs, the distance being covered in 38sec. Provided Minga throws off the effects of a dry cough Rayner will have the Limond filly to carry Mr. G. M. Currie’s colours in the Feilding Juvenile Stakes on Saturday. Five furlongs was the task for which Airing was responsible, and he revelled in the task, taking Imin. 2sec. It is likely that he will run in the open sprint on Saturday, though his mission has not yet been announced. With the sting out of the ground Reipar relished a spin over five furlongs but he was not on a time-mak-ing mission. If the Feilding track is not too hard Reipar will be a runner in the Kiwitea Handicap on Saturday. After Breakfast Interval. Middle was on the track after the breakfast interval and took a shade over lmin. 19sec. for six furlongs, and appears to be in good order for his Feilding engagements, though he has been troubled by the prevalent dry cough. Amatory finished in front of the Kiosk gelding in Dwyer’s stable at the end of four furlongs, after having given his companion a good start. Amatory is engaged in the Aorangi Trial Plate on Saturday. K. Chote, who has been associated with Airing in several of the Cockpit gelding’s successes, suffered injuries to a shoulder when he struck a post in being thrown from a young horse which darted through a gap at one of the crossings on Monday morning. He was taken to hospital but as the extent of his injuries had not been ascertained it was not possible to state whether or not he will be an inmate for an extended period. It was unfortunate for Chote that the accident happened at a time when a good deal of holiday riding is in view.
