WANGANUI EX-SERVICEMEN SPECIAL ANZAC DAY VISIT y Xhe following 11 returned soldier’ have accepted an invitation to travel by the vessel Maunganui to Sydney next April, with others from New Zealand and Australia, to take part in a special observance of Anzac Day on the occasion of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Commonwealth: - C. S. Brown, Wanganui. Alex. Bogle, Wanganui. M. E. Baker, Wangaehu. M. B. Caiman, Wanganui. J. Dale. Wanganui. A. \. Martin, Wanganui. W. E. Morgan, Waitotara. S. V. Smith, Wanganui. A. G. Toop, Wanganui. D. A. N. Woods, Wanganui. L. C. Young, Wanganui. All were successful when a ballot was taken to reduce to XX the list of Wanganui applicants to make the trip. Originally Wanganui was to be allow ed a quota of 15, but when it was, decided to dispense with hammocks as accommodation on the Maunganui that total was reduced to 11, four names, the unlucky ones in this case, being drawn from a hat. The lucky XI were given until noon yesterday to accept the invitation, and m each instance that has been done and a deposit on the passage money paid. In the event of any of those se.ecled not being able to go, the four whose names were withdrawn from the original 15 will get preference in the order in which they were withdraw n. Ihe Maunganui is scheduled to sail in sufficient time to land the party of .sew Zealanders in Australia for the Anzac Day parade. The Commonwealth Government has granted fre» transport warrants to men in Australia to get to Sydney for the event, and in consequence of that the march past ol upwards of 50,000 ex-servicemen wno became linked in that never-to-be-forgotten unit of the Empire's At my known as “The Anzacs," will be a wonderful spectacle. That Wanganui is to be well represented there is indeed very fitting.
