STREET COLLECTION GRATIFYING RESPONSE I j At a meeting of the committee of lhe Wanganui S.P.C.A. held on Tuesday it was announced that a total of | £55 2s <d had been collected in this year's street day appeal. This is the greatest sum that has been collected in this centre. It is considered that with a full complement of collectors and a thorough organisation upwards of £lOO should be netted next year. Mrs J. C. Wickham spoke in eulogistic terms of the efforts of Mrs Lance and Miss Ridd, during Anima: Week. A hearty vote of thanks to these two ladies was passed, also to Miss Goldney, the Education Board, and the local press for their support of the movement. It was announced that the following amounts had been donated: Majestic Theatre. 15s 6d; Mrs J. P. Wells, 10s; Mr G. Murch. 2s 6d; Mrs Melville collected fl 18s 3d. and the Baptist Church collection realised £1 3s 6d, and per Miss Lance, 2s. • The position of treasurer, which ihad been regretfully resigned by Mr j Aylmer, was filled by Mr Strouts. Mr • J. I’. Welis was appointed secretary. Mr Strouts intimated that there was a balance of £9B 6s 9d, and it was decided 1o place £5O on fixed deposit foi six months. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated proceedings. Among ihose present were Mr Strouts (chair); Mesdames McPhail. , Wickham; Misses Worgan, Ridd. Goldi noy, Jones. Powle, and the inspector.
