FOR EMPIRE GAMES NEW ZEALAND EIGHT TO TRAIN AT M ANG AN L I [ Ter Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Nov. IS. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association at Wellington to-night, it was decided to proceed at once with the arrangements necessary to enable the crews selected to represent the Dominion at the British Empire Gomes to begin their preliminary training. Tne eight-oar crew will assemble at Wanganui about January 2. The fours will assemble at Wellington and R. B. Smith, the sculling representative, will continue to train at Auckland. Though the full guarantee required to meet the costs c»f the trip to Sydney has not yet been confirmed, the council expects that both Canterbury and Otago Associations will contribute their quota. The appointment of a coach will be made next week. W. Stodart, Wanganui, has been selected to cox the eight, and the council has nominated Mr. A. M. Hale, of Blenheim, as assistant manager of the team. The date chosen for the interprovincial eight-oar championship at Wanganui, April 18, 1938, was confirmed by the meeting. Mr. D. R. Menzies was re-clecled chairman of thb council. ARAMOHO BOAT CLUB MITCHELL SHIELD RACING Racing for the Mitchell Shield was continued last evening oy the Aramoho Boating Club when Stowers won from Harrison by a length. In the consolation Holmes won from Laird by a length. The final of the consolation is to be rowed between Holmes and Shaw at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The final of the Mitchell Shield will be rowed on the same day at 5 p.m.
