ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

HORSES FOR LEVIN THE FINAL GALLOPS (Special to "Chronicle.”) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. Trentham's team for the Levin meeting will be somewhat reduced, as Liane, Windward, Free Gold, informer (late Rejected), Twilight Song, and Gabriel will not be making the trip, and Cricket, who ricked a shoulder, is doubtful; but the centre will nevertheless be well represented with seventeen different horses. The weather was fine again after yesterday’s storm for the galloping this morning, and the trial grass, back in commission, was fast though a trifle dead. A number of horses were worked against the watch yesterday morning, and these are likely to be given short sprints again to-morrow. They include Sigurd, Lustral and Matoru, who came down the last furlong only this morning, and Happy Heels, Dancing Flame, and Myriam, who were exercised on the sand. Good Sun (R. Hitchen) outstayed Accomplice (G. Flood) over seven furlongs in lmin. 31sec., the last halfmile in 53 l-ssec. Good Sun is very well and he should make a creditable showing on Saturday. Accomplice is beginning to shape up again and will probably accompany Debham and Delicit to Feilding. Deficit (R. A. Dobson) ran the best half-mile in 50 l-ssec. Alunga (A. Sim) comfortably beat Raroa (S. Wilson) over the same distance in 50 3-5 sec. Galteemore (A. Bennet) was always ahead of Fairy Dale (S. R. Farland) over seven furlongs, the filly failing to make her usual impression at the end and being two lengths astern on reaching the post. The distance was covered in lmin. 32 2-ssec., the last half-mile in 53 l-ssec. Galteemore \ looks in excellent fettle. Fairy Dale is also well. Sunny Blonde (L. Faulkiner) stretched out with her customary freedom over six furlongs in lmin. 18 2-ssec., the last half-mile in 51 2-5 sec. This mare was under test, as she bled on the last day at Riccarlon, but there was no recurrence. Free Gold (Farland) was held back to Alloa (W. Doyle) and Kinloch (Bennet) over half a mile in 52 4-5 sec., and there was not much separating them all at the end. Free Gold is not accepting the Levin compliment. It is interesting to note that at Levin Free Gold is, for instance, set 51b above Sigurd, and at Feilding the 51b is the other way. Jewish Lad is Well Jewish Lad (P. Burgess) ran six furlongs alone in lmin. 'M l-ssec., taking 53 4-ssec. for the last half-mile. Informer (R. Webster) beat Trebor (Doyle) by a length over half a mile in 52sec. The Defoe—Lyrical filly (R, Lorigan) ran true as an arrow in leading Twenty Grand (Faulkiner) throughout three furlongs in 37 3-5 sec. Dissipation (Dobson) was easing up when finishing a length in front of Haupongi (A. Rule) after running half a mile in 55sec. Camilla Horn (p. Burgess) was held back to Polabian (D. W. Bush) over a mile in lmin. 56sec., the last half in 57sec. Afterwards Polabian jumped four fences without a great deal of pace on. Southern Blood (M. Reardon) and Gabriel (Bush) separately went over a couple of hurdles. Southern Blood, who has been scratchy lately, did not fence with his old dash, but he warmed up better in a mile of threequarter pace work afterwards and he is now to fulfil his Levin engagement. Gabriel jumped his fences well. Additional riding engagements fur Levin are:—S. Wilson, Myriam (who may run twice), Dancing Flame Raroa, Good Sun, Golden Chest (probably) and Happy Heels (possibly); P. Burgess, Irish Orders and Taro; C. T. Wilson, Sigurd, Lustral, Beau Gallante and Nightlass; W. Doyle, Alloa and Fairy Dale; A. E. Bennet, Galteemore; L. Faulkiner, Sunny Blonde; A. Lord, Southern Blood; E. Burgess Camilla Horn; D. W. Bush, Polabian; and R. A. Dobson, Matoru. S. Wilson will be at the Waikato meeting on Monday, when one of his mounts will be Race Boy. If Peerless goes north at Christmas, Wilson will do his holiday riding at Auckland. CHAMPION HORSEMAN A TRIBUTE TO G. RICHARDS Writing in "Reynolds” (London), "Bayardo” says that notwithstanding he does so much race-riding, Gordon Richards finds time to ride a lot of private gallops. "It is no uncommon occurrence,” says the writer quoted, "lor Ricnarus to be at a northern race meeting in the afternoon, then travel south by aeroplane, ride early morning work at, say Beckhampton, or other of the Berkshire or Wiltshire establishments, and then fly north for more racing later in the morning.” Despite his success, Richards does not suffer from a swollen head. "Bayardo” says this is a high tribute to his character, as "more titan one jockey riding in England to-day, and enjoying a run of luck, develops that '£s to talk to me look,’ which only vanishes when good luck changes to bad.” "Bayardo” says that one of the main secrets of Richards’ numerous narrow victories is that he uses a longer rein than most of his fellow riders. As a result, Richards’ mount can stretch its head that extra bit which often lands it in front. Richards uses the whip very little, though his energetic movements often give the impression to the contrary. WAIKATO RACING CLUB TIMES FOR TO-MORROW [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 18.
