ATTITUDE OF METHODISTS THE AUCKLAND SYNOD f Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 18. Confirmation of the findings reached at the last New Zealand Methodist Conference on marriage and divorce was made at the annual District Synod of the Methodist Church in Auckland. Various resolutions on these subjects had been submitted by the conference to individual synods for consideration and the Auckland gathering ! took action on a recommendation of a special committee on marriage, divorce and abortion. A resolution setting forth the Methodist attitude to remarriage of divorced persons was adopted in the following terms:— “That a Minister may remarry a divorced person or persons if he is satisfied, after consultation with both parties to the proposed remarriage, that in entering into marriage they have a sincere and honest purpose and an attitude of mind which is in conformity with the church’s view of what marriage should mean and stand for.” MASTERTON SYNOD 3IRTH CONTROL DISCUSSED. Marriage, divorce, birth control and related questions, including the subject of abortion, were under discussion at the Wellington District Methodist Synod to-day. The synod approved of a report of a special committee n Auckland set up by the last conference which had met during the year, and resolved that its adoption be recommended to the next conference. Inauguration of an order of Christian Citizenship among Methodist people
was approved in connection with re-! ports presented on temperance. It was j stated that the basic principles of the! order were persona] allegiance to Jesus Christ, ensuing in a challenge to i live a complete life by devotion, study i and service that Christ’s way of life i might be faithfully expressed in every social relationship.
