BOWLERS IMPRESS

TOURING CRICKETERS N.Z. TEAM AT ADELAIDE DISMISSAL OF BRADMAN <By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) Received Nov. 7, 7.5 p.m. ADELAIDE, Nov. 7. South Australia are 148 runs ahead of New Zealand on the first innings, but they had to battle hard all day for this advantage in face of remarkably accurate bowling and fielding. The slow scoring can be attributed more to the high standa r d of the bowling than lack of enterprise or* me part of the batsmen. Of the fast men, Cowie was easily the most impressive, but one of the best performances was given by the medium righthander Roberts, who at one stage had bowled 18 overs for only 22 runs. Vivian also kept immaculate length all day. Taken all round the bowling was a surprise. Seven bowlers were used. The Test batsmen Badcock’s cen■ury and Bradman’s sensational dismissal in the first over, and the solid innings of 56 from the young Adelaide batsman Hamence, who is mentioned as a possibility for the English tour, were highlights in South Australia’s innings. Badcock’s 114 was encouraging from the Test viewpoint. Fine driving and forceful late cuts were featured in his innings, which included six fours and occupied 257 minutes. Tindill became something of a hero in catching Bradman and Badcock. Both were smart efforts, but his work was only in keeping with the superb fielding of the rest of the team. Some idea of the slow scoring can be gained from the fact that 50 runs took 61 minutes, 100 took 136 minutes and 200 took 250 minutes. The total was 250 in 321 minutes. At the end of the day Grimmett ricked his right leg while batting, but the injury is not serious. Following are the scores:— New Zealand. First innings 151 South Australia.
