THE TRANSPORT MURDER

VICTIM SHOT THREE TIMES. MELBOURNE, Nov. 5. An examination reveals that John Dempsey, the victim of the lorry murder case, was shot three times near the heart at close range. The police are satisfied that Dempsey was murdered by a gang of wool thieves who apparently have a “receiver” somewhere in the city, as the wool on Dempsey’s truck could not be disposed of under its original brands in its original bales. Altogether 25 bales were stolen. Thefts of wool from transport trucks plying between country and city have been rather frequent lately. The procedure usually is to steal the wool while the trucks are slowly ascending steep gradients, the bandits in the darkness mounting the trucks and tossing the bales off.
