OFFER FOR JOHN WILKES GALLOPS AT CAULFIELD MELBOURNE. 'Oct. 26. The gallops at Caulfield this morning were carried out on the steeplechase grass, conditions being excellent. John Wilkes ran a mile in Imin. 411 sec., which was only -sec. outside Palfreseo's course record. Mr Alan E. Ccoper, the owner of Talking, is reported to have offered 6000 guineas for John Wilkes, but no business resulted. Dark Sky impressed when he easily beat Beechwood over seven furlongs in Imin. 271 sec., the best effort over the distance for some years. Ajax beat The Chanter over a nine furlongs in Imin. 38sec., finishing well. Sir Regent and Prince Quex ran a mile in Imin, 44sec., Sir Regent travelling freeiy and pulling up well. Red Manfred ran four furlongs in 50Jsec. Winbyie registered 49sec. for four furlongs, the best of the morning. Pamelus ran an excellent seven furlongs in Imin. 29sec. Blackman moved freely over six furlongs in Imin. 27sec. Beau Fibre covered four furlongs in 50sec. Wotan was not extended to run a mile on the tan in Imin. 58sec. He is very fit. There are 21 acceptors for the Cantala Stakes. At Mentone Floodtide beat Panax over a mile and 20 yards in Imin 44 sec.
