John Wilkes ran a mile in Imin. 411 sec., which was only -sec. outside Palfreseo's course record. Mr Alan E. Ccoper, the owner of Talking, is reported to have offered 6000 guineas for John Wilkes, but no business resulted. Dark Sky impressed when he easily beat Beechwood over seven furlongs in Imin. 271 sec., the best effort over the distance for some years.
