WIDOW’S vLAIM FOR £3OOO [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. Before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, a claim for £3OOO damages was cor menced in the Supreme Court to-day. Ada Payne was the plaintiff, whose husband, Henry Payne, was struck and killed on the Hutt Road on the night of June 21 by a car O' ned by Dunstan John Burney, of Wellington, glass merchant. It was alleged th-* the accident was due to the negligence of a mechanic who was driving with the owner's consent. The defence was that if it could be proved that Payne met his death as a result of a collision it was contributed to by negligence in crossing the road.
