PLAZA THEATRE

"WINGS OF THE MORNING.” “Wings of the Morning” is enjoying a highly-successful season at the Plaza Theatre. The film deserves all the praise that has been lavished upon it, but special appreciation must be accorded the work of the photographers for what is possibly the most outstanding achievement in technicolour up to the present. The work of the French star, Annabella, is also outstanding. Appearing in two roles she interprets excellently the minute differences of reaction of a gipsy girl thrust into the highest strata of life at a country seat in Ireland, and a girl of gipsy descent, again in the same society, but this time with a different social background. Henry Fonda plays well the male lead, and there is a strong supporting cast, including sporting notabilities such as Steve Donoghue, Irene Vanbrugh is the aged gipsy greatgrandmother, the owner of the Derby winner, Wings of the Morning. The prologue shows Ireland three to four generations ago, the infatuation of a sporting peer for a gipsy girl, their marriage, and the peer’s death in a riding accident. Time marches on to the war in Spain.
