REUNION BALL

LAST NIGHT’S FUNCTION COMPLETE ARRANGEMENTS WELL-PL ANN ED DECORATION S The annual ball of the Wanganui Technical College Past Pupils’ Association waj hold last night when a large attendance of old pupils from many parts g! the country gathered at what has ccme to be recognised to be one of the chief social events of the year in Wanganui. The guests were received by Mr IE. Newton, principal of the college, and Mrs Newton, who wore a frock of black lace over petunia taffeta, and black ring velvet jacket. The commit* co was Misses E. Kilner, E. Delves, Waters, N. Brock; Messrs D. Sherriff, B. Goldsbury, W. Cairncross, W. Gilmour, G. A. Thompson. A feature of the function was the complete nature of the decorations. The committee responsible for this section of the preparations must have put much time and thought into the work, and the effort is commendable. The ceiling of the hall was in blue and white, the school colours, and streamers of blue and gold colours of the association, formed a draping effect around the sides. In each of the corners the colours of the four school houses were arranged so that they blended with the general lay-out. The whole combined to give the impression of unity. The house banners, placed around the walls, served to bring pleasing memories to many of days when they joined and sang “Rees and Braik and Alexander, names revered, Pi rani too” and some were conscious of a little sadness as they recalled those happy days when they attended their alma mater. The effective lighting was arranged by Mr Billinghurst. Each corner of the hall represented a college houst with a huge cluster of balloons of the respective colourings. Balloons were concealed in large baskets and were released during the evening.

The coloured lighting was well done and transformed the entire building, both interior and exterior. Well-fur-nished lounges were provided in siderooms and were popular at all times. Supper was served in the hall in the main school and on all sides favourable comment regarding this section of the programme was hoard. Needless to say, it was of very satisfying nature and could not have been more well arranged. This ball was the concluding function of the college reunion which has been extended over the week-end.
