SMUGGLING DIAMONDS

£3,000,000 WORTH SINCE 1930 AN INTERNATIONAL GANG LONDON, Oct. 12. Mr Charles Murphy, a United States attorney, arrived in Plymouth to-day to take action against a gang alleged since 1930 to have smuggled diamonds worth £3,000,000 into the United States. Fifty-five persons have been indicted by a Grand Jury. Mr Murphy wants the extradition from France and Belgium of 24, of whom 13 are women. Federal agents got on the trail when £57,000 worth of gems were found in the false bottom of a trunk [Which a beautiful girl was landing n* New York from the giant liner Normandie. An investigation revealed that & gang operating in London, Paru, Brussels and New York used women agents. These carried suitcases marked in code for identification by other members, who collected them in cloakrooms.
