WEDDINGS

RENNIE—BASSETT Though the wedding was a quiet one, much kindly interest was shown yesterday morning when Miss Reta Bassett, daughter of Mr and Mrs Len E. Bassett, St. John’s Hill, was married to Mr William Stanley Norman Rennie, son of Mr W. M. and the late Mrs Rennie, of Nelson Street, Wanganui. The wedding took place at the Presbyterian Church, Westmere, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. A. H. Norrie, and the wedding music played by Miss Thea Collier. There was the charm of simple grace in the wedding group at the chancil, and the setting of tinted lilies made a delightful background for the frocks. The bride was given away by her father. She was a tall and graceful figure in her simply made and beautiful gown of mother-of-pearl pale pink cobweb lace over taffeta. The fully-flared skirt was finished with a short train. The long sleeves were full and stiffened at the shoulueis, narrowing to points over the hands. A Peter Pan collar formed the neckline and a row of lace-covered buttons centred the front of the bodice from neck to waist. A pretty finishing touch was the sash and bow of matching velvet. Her veil of cut tulle in the same shade as the gown was kept in place with a Madonna halo of tiny palest pink pearls. The sheaf bouquet was of pearl pink roses, carnations, rhododendrons, maidenhair fern and lily of the valley. Miss Joyce Bassett attended her sister as bridesmaid, wearing a similar frock of mother of pearl pink cobweb lace, except that it had no train and the skirt had a wide hem and narrow band of matching taffeta. The Peter Pan collar and tiny buttons on the front on the bodice were of taffeta and the sleeves were banded with taffeta to match the skirt. In the same creamy pink shade were her mittens and Sissal straw hat, which was banded for about one inch at the edge with stitched taffeta and trimmed with band and bow of the same stitched taffeta. Her sheaf was of pink roses and maidenhair fern. The duties of best man were fulfilled by Mr W. J. Hastings. Only immediate relatives were present at the reception held at the home of the bride’s parents, Parsons Street, St. John’s Hill. To receive the guests, Mrs Bassett wore a gown of spring green cloque threaded with gold. On the cape sleeves were deep bands or black fur. She wore a large black hat and held a bouquet of autumn-toned flowers. Mrs Bassett, senr., grandmother of the bride, was dressed in a black ensemble with touches of mauve, and wore a mauve shoulder spray. When the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon tour, the bride travelled in a torquoise blue and navy lightweight woollen three-piece suit, navy blue hat and accessories.
