ACUTE SHORTAGE DENIED
POSITION IN THE WAIKATO CLAIMS BY MINISTER WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. Statements that there is a serious shortage of farm workers in the Dominion were challenged by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, during the Budget debate in the House of Representatives to-nighc. The Minister said that as a result
the Opposition and others that the policy of the Government had caused a serious shortage of farm labour, ho had had a survey made in the farming districts of the Waikato and in other districts. It had been found at the end of last week that while there were 388 vacancies in the areas surveyed for farm labourers, there had been at the same time 394 able-bodied men waiting for the jobs. Actually there were more men available than there were jobs.
