GERMAN TRADE
LARGE ORDERS BOOKED WIDE RANGE OF GOODS AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. Business is already being done under the trade treaty with Germany. It is stated that some thousands of pounds worth of orders for German goods have been booked in Auckland at prices well below those quoted by British manufacturers. Many German agencies are represented by those who are seeking trade from Auckland importers, thorough preparations having been made, including the obtaining of credentials, months ahead of the announcement of the treaty. Traders state that not only have they been shown samples of manufacturers in which business is sought, but German agencies are prepared to manufacture according to samples supplied to them, much in the same way as Japanese interests first catered for New Zealand trade. The German goods offered, from samples shown, are of a wide range and uniformly high quality, and importers point out that from the quotations given, German interests, backed by their Government, are prepared to make a determined bid to secure a sound footing on the Dominion market.
