TO STAND TRIAL
POWELL AND UNWIN “BANKERS’ TOADIES” CASE EDMONTON (Alberta), Oct. 22. J. Unwin, the Government Whij:, and G. F. Powell, the Douglas Social Credit adviser from London, were committed for trial on a charge of libel. Senator A. W. Gricsbach, the complainant, was not called. Unwin denied writing the •‘Bankers’ Toadies” pamphlet. He said he got it from Powell and that the printers were paid out of Government funds.
Unwin was arrested on a charge of counselling murder, and also to answer three charges of libel. He was arrested in connection with the distribution of leaflets entitled “Bankers’ Toadies,” bearing the names of nine prominent Government opponents, followed by the words, “Exterminate them.” The leaflets were seized in a police raid on the Social Credit headquarters. Powell was arrested on a charge of being the author of the leaflets.
