BRITAIN’S ARMAMENT

“ NOT TO BE ABATED ” SOLELY FOR DEFENCE SIR THOMAS INSKIP’S VIEW. I British Official Wireless.] Received Oct. 24, 8.10 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 23. Sir Thomas Inskip (Minister lor Coordination of Defence) in a speech said there would be no relaxation but rather an intensification of the Government’s re-armament programme. Britain had counted the cost and would go through with it. There was now a formidable list of Government factories of all sorts built or in the course of building and designed to a scale commensurate with the rearmament programme. The Government was determined to proceed with the programme—it would not be abated nor delayed for a single moment—not for aggression, but solely for defence, and so that British foreign policy might be consistent with the greatness and dignity of the country and able to plav its useful part in the pacification o* the world.
