Mutton Prices Reduced The Wanganui Master Butchers’ Association has reduced the price of mutton by one penny a pound. The new price operates from to-morrow morning.

Technical Reunion. The reunion celebrations of the Wanganui Technical College are to be continued to-day when various sporting activities, concluding with the ball to-night, will bo held. On Saturday fine weather favoured the activities, and it is hoped that, the weather today will be better than that prevailing in the city yesterday.

Relay Race. The Marton to Wanganui relay race to be held to-day is to leave the Marton Post Office at noon and the runners will finish on Cook’s Gardens at approximately 2.15 p.m. A large field is contesting the event, and it is expected that a good race for the W. L. Young Cup, at present held by the Wanganui Club, will ensue. Technical College Reunion

The annual reunion of old students of the Wanganui Technical College is being held during the holiday weekend. On Saturday afternoon a cricket match between the old boys and present pupils was played and resulted in a draw. To-day a number of sporting fixtures between the old and pre-sent-day pupils are to be held, including rowing, hockey, soccer, Rugby, tennis and basketball. This evening proceeding? will be brought to a close with a ball in the college assembly hall.

Cub Aeroplane’s Performances. The new Taylor Cub, an American light aeroplane imported by Mr. Barnard Owen, has proved popular with members of the Canterbury Aero Club, who have found that the machine measures up to the performances claimed by the manufacturers. There is no indication yet whether the type of machine will be adopted by the Aero Club for more general use, this being dependent on the decisions of the Government authorities on its airworthiness. Automobile Patrol at Races. With a view to enabling motorists to park their cars in safety and with 1 a minimum of delay, the Automobile Association (Wanganui) will provide i patrols at the Waver ley races to-day, and assistants will wear a distinctive coloured dust-coat in order to enable drivers of cars to follow signals more closely. The scheme under which cars will be parked has been adapted from plans which have been found effective by the Royal Automobile Association, England, from whom valuable information has been received. Hottest Day of Season

Saturday was the hottest day of the present summer season, the temperature reaching a maximum of 72 degrees in the shade. The weather was gloriously fine on Saturday until shortly after 3 p.m., when the sky clouded over. A total of &hrs. 30mins. bright sunshine was recorded at the New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill. Saturday’s minimum temperature was 52 degrees. Conditions were uninviting out-of-doors yesterday when the maximum temperature was 60 degrees and the minimum 48 degrees. Rubbish Collection Residents of Castleclift have made representations to the Wanganui City Council regarding a proposed “cleanup week,” during which rubbisn which has accumulated during several months would be removed. Advice has been received by representative residents that the rubbish collection will take place at a time to be notified by public notice. “I've got two cart-loads in my backyard,” remarked a Castlecliff resident when approached by the “Chronicle” for information regarding the quantities expected in the “clean-up week.” Holiday Traffic Wanganui residents who had occasion to travel to Wellington on Saturday morning report that the amount of traffic on the roads was unusually Idrge, even at such an early hour as 8 a.m. From the appearance of many of the cars they contained parties bound north for the threeday holiday week-end, which would enable many Wellington residents to travel as far as Auckland. The cars proceeding, north outnumbered those proceeding Southward almost three to one. Few instances of reckless driving were noted, the majority of the motorists appearing to appreciate the necessity for extra caution during such a busy period. Rowing Season Opening The official opening of the Wanganui Rowing Association’s 1937-38 season is to take place at the Wanganui Rowing Club’s shed next Saturday afternoon. After the opening ceremony sprint fours racing will be held between crews representing the Aramoho, Wanganui and Union Clubs. Wanganui rowers were very successful in regattas last season and it is anticipated that the present season is going to be equally as successful. The three clubs have enrolled many new members. The Wanganui Rowing Association is applying to have the New Zealand championship regatta rowed on Ihe Wanganui River on Easter Saturday with the interprovincial eight-oar race on Easter Monday.
