VICTORIA LEAGUE

BRIDGE BOR CECIL WRAY FUND On the first Wednesday evening in November the Victoria League will hold their annual effort for the Cecil AVray funds, the effort, as in previous (years, taking the form of a bridge I party. This is to be held in the Elrick ' Lounge, to provide accommodation for the many who have signified their intention of attending to help the funds that are sent to Mr and Mrs Cecil Wray to provide Christmas comforts for tne disabled and disfigured soldiers. Mr and Mrs Wray, of London, and one-time residents of Wanganui, are carrying on the noble work of helping to brighten the lives of these men, by arranging outings for them and providing them with little comforts from the funds sent by the Wanganui branch of the Victoria League. These soldiers, who were disabled and badly disfigured in the Great War, are still patients in the Rockhampton Hospital, for they still need a great deal of care and attention because of old wounds that keep breaking down. Mrs Wray personally attends to the distribution of suitable gifts at Christmas time, and at all times carries on splendid work. It is only a few years since Mr and Mrs Wray re-visited Wanganui, and during their stay here they gave talks on their work for the soldiers and also showed photographs and slides of the men when enjoying one of the outings, made possible by the generosity of the Wanganui branch of the Victoria League. This appeal to attend the bridge party should meet with a ready response from those who like a game of bridge and at the same time assist a worthy cause.
