Mr. A. J. Parris, late of Wanganui, was elected chairman of the South Canterbury Woolbrokers’ and Stock Auctioneers’ Association at the recent annual meeting in Timaru.
Mr B. M. Silk, New Zealand amateur champion, will be a competitor at the Manawatu Golf Club’s championship tournament, which commences on the Hokowhitu course to-day. Mr C. N. Armstrong is another Wanganui competitor.
Mr T. A. Morland, senior inspector of schools, Hawke’s Bay, has been appointed to the position of senior inspector, Otago, in succession to Mr G. E. Overton, who will be transferred to Nelson at the end of the year.
Major E. M. Mackcrscy, of To Kuiti, has been appointed to take command of the support company of the composite battalion comprising the Waikato, Hauraki, and North Auckland regiments.
The death occurred at the Kauamia Pa, opposite Raorikia, this week of Mr Rau Ranga Waikaikai, the last representative of his generation in this section of the Wanganui River. His passing will be a severe loss to the Maori people. A tangi is at present in progress at Kauamoa.
