Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, October 22, 3 p.m. General Situation.—The present anti-cyclone is moving slowly eastwards off New Zealand and a rather intense depression is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerly winds, rising in places to gale force in the Cook and Foveaux Straits area, backing to southerly shortly in the southern portion of the South Island and southerlies extending over the Dominion after from 24 to 36 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough north of East Cape and becoming slight to moderate but later rising generally on the west coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds at lirst but a change to southerlies advancing from the South within the next 24 hours; seas rather rough to rough. Weather: Fair at first in most districts but rain developing soon in the western and southern portions of the South Island and cool unsettled conditions and shavers extending over the Dominion during the week-end.
