WELCOME EVENING The Main South Road School was the scene of a very happy evening on Saturday last, when a welcome was extended to Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Boshier, who were recently married and have settled in Main South. Mr. A. McDonald, at the commencement of the evening, extended a very warm welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Boshier and congratulated them on their marriage, wishing them health, wealth and happiness. A most enjoyable time was spent by the some forty odd persons present in dancing and competitions. Mr. S. W. Deihl supplied accordion music for the dancing. SURPRISE PARTY Miss Jeune Harris, who has since left to take up a position in Wellington, was the guest of honour at a surprise party at her home last Thursday evening. The party had been arranged by Mrs. L. G. Rose and a very jolly time was spent in playing games and competitions. Miss Harris was wished every success in her future position. Mr. Harris thanked those present for their good wishes and also for organising a very pleasant evening. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE GARDEN CIRCLE Over twenty members gathered at the residence of Mrs. D. Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Thompson presiding. JWesdames J- S. Carr, A. Price, W. Carr and Miss O’Neill were welcomed as new members. I The growing of various plants, namely the dahlia, the chrysanthemum and the tomato, were discussed. Members enjoyed walking round, Mrs. Thompson’s garden, which is looking very gay just now. It is intended for members to visit Mr, Stevens’ nursery gardens, Bulls, out November 2. Preliminary discussions took place regarding the annual flower show in February. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Deroles and Kreger. Afternoon tea and a vote of thanks to the hostess concluded a most enjoyable afternoon. The next meeting of the garden circle will be held in Mrs. McKenzie's garden at a date to be arranged later.
