RAETIHI

RAETIHI BOWLING CLUB Brilliant sunshine greeted the Raetihi Bowling Club on the occasion of its official opening on Wednesday afternoon. The green was in splendid order and the surrounding gardens were delightful with their spring flowers and green shrubs. Visitors from Ohakune, Taumarunui and Wanganui were in attendance and a number of ladies were also present. Mr. C. M. Whyte (president) welcomed visitors and then apologised for the absence of the club patron (Hon. F. Langstone), whose duties of State prevented him from being present. He then called upon the Mayor of Raetihi (Dr. W. J. Feltham) to perform the opening ceremony. While granting the Raetihi Club the possession of a green second to none in New Zealand he believed that in Ohakune they had a club and club surroundings second to none in the Dominion. (Laughter). The Mayor then declared the green open pnd the president s wife (Mrs. C. M. Whyte) threw up the first jack and delivered the first bowl amidst applause. A much appreciated afternoon tea was served by Mesdames B. A. Drury, C. M. Whyte and R. Mosen. Rinks games were played during the rest of the afternoon.
