TOBACCO GROWING
GRANT FOR RESEARCH WORK STATION TO BE ESTABLISHED [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The Tobacco Board recently decided to make a grant for research into diseases affecting tobacco leaf, and more specifically toward the cost of establishment of a research station in the Motueka district. Regulations to enable the board to make a grant, and also grants in the future, are issued with the Gazette. The regulations state that the board may apply moneys for the establishment of research stations and for research into the growing, curing, preparation, packing, grading and manufacture of tobacco, also for granting subsidies to foster and develop tobacco growing and manufacturing industries, including export of the leaf.
