DEATH OF GALLIO DK. W. C. RING'S OPINION The extraordinary accident that caused the destruction of Galio at Avondale last Saturday is probably without parallel in the history of the New Zealand turf. Dr. W. C. Ring expressed the opinion that the ligament in one hind leg had given way, causing additional stress on the other leg with a similar result. Dr. Ring said that in his experience he had never encountered another such case. C. G. Goulsbro, rider of Gallio, thought that his mount was galloped on by the horse behind, which was Kiltowyn, and had one leg broken, the other giving way under the additional strain before he could be pulled up. However, Gallio appeared to be diear when the mishap occurred, and it is probable that the others got alongside him when he stopped suddenly. RACING IN VICTORIA WERRIBEE CLP RESULT RED MANFRED UNLUCKY Received Oct. 21, 10.50 p.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 21. The Werribee Cup resulted: Bonus 1, Red Manfred 2, Turf Boy 3. Red Manfred finished strongly and was unlucky to lose.
