CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION

NORTHLAND DISCUSSION [ Per Press Association. ] WHANGAREI, Oct. 21. At the request of the Associated Chambers of Commerce in Northland, Mr. C. P. Hainsworth, General Manager of the Centennial Exhibition, addressed a large gathering of delegates representative of the various counties in the province, over 20 being present. Mr. Atkinson, chairman of the Bay of Islands County Council, presided. A large number of representatives spoke in favour of the proposal to establish a comprehensive Northland court at the Dominion Exhibition during the centennial celebrations. The question of financing the undertaking was discussed at length and a committee, conssiting of the chairman of the Whangarei County Council, the deputy-Mayor of the Borough Council, the chairman of the Harbour Board, and Messrs. A. T. Brainsby and H. W. Crawford, was set up to prepare proposals for financing the undertaking for submission to the various local bodies throughout the province. I CONFERENCE HELD ( Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. As honoraiy president of the New Zealand Exhibition Company, the Hon. D. G. Suhivan presided at the initial stages of the conference of permanent heads of Departments at Parliament Buildings to-day to discuss the general aspects of the Government display. The Government voted £250,000 towards the cost of the centennial celebrations, of which £75,000 is by way of loan and subsidy to the Exhibition Company. The conference resolved itself into a general committee, and appointed a sub-committee' representing the Departments of Public Works, Internal Affairs, Agricultural, Railways, Industries and Commerce, Education and National Brr.accasting to receive reports from the department-! 1 heads on the space requited, the estimated cost and the nature of the proposed exhibits.
