HOSPITAL FEES

INCREASE IMMINENT DISCUSSION AT BOARD MEETING “Other boards have found it necessary to raise their fees and it appears that a similar step will have to be taken by this body in the near future,” said Mr. W. E. Broderick, chairman of the Wanganui Hospital Board, at yesterday’s meeting. Letters had been received from several boards in other centres stating that they had found it necessary to increase charges. Miss M. A. Newcombe said that increasing the fees would not be wholly satisfactory, in that it would affect those people who were in poor circumstances but made an effort to pay, while those w’ho made no effort to meet their obligations would get away with it. The question will be discussed at a future date.
