TAIHAPE

GOLF*VOTES LABOUR DAY TOURNEY The golfing stage is set for the annual Labour Day tourney to be held on the Raukura links on October 24 and 25 under the auspices of the Taihape Golf Club. One qualifying round will be played in the morning of October 24, after which the first eight to qualify will play-off for the Taihape open amateur championship, while the second eight will contest the Raukura handicap. The remainder will take part in flight tournaments, which will be arranged according to handicap, eight competitors participating in each group. A senior and junior medal competition will be played in conjunction with the qualifying round. The programme also provides for a bogey handicap and a Stableford handicap and a Stableford bogey. A putting competition will be held each day. The open amateur championship was won last year by A. P. Seccombe. J. P. Mortland did not compete, as the national championships were on at the time, and engaged his attention. The links will be in splendid order for the tourney, as all the fairways and greens are being cut this week, and if the present spell of fine weather continues, the course will be faster than ever before. A bus will run to the links on both days, and luncheon and morning and afternoon tea will be available at the clubhouse. An imposing array of trophies has been provided for the occasion, and big entries are expected. Intending competitors who have not yet entered, should communicate with the secretary (Mr J. P. Mortland) immediately.

The finals of the club championships will be played on October 31, and the official closing of the season will take place on November 7. Those who wish to play summer golf are requested to notify the secretary as soon as possible. The summer subscription is £1 Is for men and 15s for ladies. ST.
