NEW DESTROYER MAORI
MEMENTO FROM NATIVE RACE LETTER TO LORD BLEDISLOE ROTORUA, Oct. 19. The information that the British Admiralty intends to name one of the new destroyers the Maori was received with considerable interest at the last meeting of the Arawa District Trust Board, which expressed its desire to present some memento typical of the Maori race to the Admiralty for installation in the new warship. Various suggestions were discussed, including carved tompions for the guns or a shield for the officers’ or men’s mess, but it was finally decided that a letter should be written to Viscount Bledisloe asking him to interview the naval authorities in order to obtain their suggestions.
