TAXATION METHODS

FARMERS’ UNION VIEW [ Per Press Aosociation. ] WELLINGTON. Oct. 20. Interviewed to-day on the proposed amendments to the Land and Income Tax Act, Mr. O’Shea, Dominion secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, said that a great amount of work would be saved the Government’s special committee for reviving land and income tax if it made use of the report of the Sim Taxation Commission. The recommendations of this commission had the support of the Farmers’ Union. The statement which the union recently had put forward on land and income tax was much in line with the commission’s recommendations. There was no question, he said, that the imposition of the land tax was making it difficult for partnerships which in rough country, particularly in the North Island, were necessary for the economic farms. Both the land and income and company taxes should be abolished.
