THE LEWINS RESCUED
PROCEEDING TO KONGOR KHARTOUM, Oct. 18. Native searchers have reached the Lewins and are bringing them to Kongor, where a Royal Air Force ’plane made a forced landing safely with the District Commissioner. It is hoped that the Lewins can be evacu»ted by air. A message published yesterday stated that clever trick flying enabled a pilot of the Royal Air Force to pick up a message from Mrs. Lewin, who, with her husband, Bri-gadier-General Corrie Lewin, made a forced landing near Halakat, in the Sudan. She attached a message to a line suspended between two poles, ;and the pilot, flying low caught it. The message stated: "We do so appreciate all the efforts being made for us. We are deeply grieved and upset at what has occurred.” It added that the stranded flyers had enough food and water for three days. AID FROM THE AIR Received Oct. 19, 11.55 p.m. CAIRO, Oct. 19. Air Force ’planes dropped stretchers in which natives will carry the I Lewins to Kongor, 15 miles away, (where an Air Force ’plane is waiting Ito fly them to Khartoum.
