General Situation.—New Zealand is still located between a rather deep cyclone centred far to the north-east and a complex low pressure area covering the western Tasman. Pressure is high and changing little over the Dominion. Forecast.—Winds: South-east to east prevailing north of Westport and Kaikoura, light to moderate mainly but strong in parts of Cook Strait and in places between Cape Palliser and East Cape, elsewhere variable. Seas (New Zealand waters): North-east to north predominating and freshening in the far south, rather rough in parts of the Cook Strait area and east coast of the North Island, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds and moderate to rather rough seas. Weather: For the most part fair to fine but cloudy and with isolated showers or misty rain in east coast areas. Some rain developing also in the far southwest and south. Temperatures mild. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 12 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperatures: Maximum, 64deg.
