CAULFIELD RACES

THE POSTPONED MEETING IMPROVEMENT IN TRACK MELBOURNE, Oct. 19. The weather is line and a strong wind has proved beneficial to the Caulfield track, present appearances pointing to a favourable meeting tomorrow. To-day's gallops at Caulfield were carried out on the tan. Sir Regent ran live furlongs in Imin. 7*sec. Only One covered half a mile in 55scc. Wotan and International were associated over a mile in Imin. 57isec. The unusual conditions upset Willie Win, but his connections hope that the horse will be lit to run to-mor-row. I Desert Chief does not appreciate a wet track, and his connections are leaving the decision as to starting or not until to-morrow. The owner, Mr G. J. Barton, stated that Desert Chief is unlikely to run in the Caulfield Cup if the track is heavy. Acceptors for the Werribee Cup, which will probably be run on Thursday, include Red Manfred 9.0, Highardo, Vaalmore, Conandale and Navarino. Kamakia S.B, is an acceptor for the Werribee Flying Handicap, and Gay Circle 9.0, for the Welter. Yesterday afternoon it was still raining at Caulfield, and the Cup prospects were no brighter. Nearly four inches have fallen since Friday. No decision will be made regarding the running of the race until to-night. The Ascot races, scheduled for to-day, have been postponed. Courtcraft and Homily were to reach Melbourne ycsFerday afternoon. Pandava, Black Laughter and Allunga are also coming. Floodtide galloped six furlongs in Imin. 17sec. at Mentone yesterday.
