GOLF NOTES. TAIHAPE V. WAIMARI.NO. An inter-club match between Taihape and Waimarino was played on the Raukura links during the weekend and resulted in a decisive win lor the Taihape club. Four-ball matches were played in the morning and singles in the afternoon. The course was hard and fast and the visitors experienced much difficulty in gauging the strength of the fiery greens. The “Cascade" cup was at stake, the leading six players on each side competing for this handsome trophy which was retained by the Taihape Club by the decisive margin of eight wins to one. The other games played had no bearing on the “Cascade” cup competition, but counted in the interclub contest. Results are as under, Taihape players being mentioned first in each case:— Four-Ball Matches. McClure and Kincaid defeated Attrill and Marks. Somerville and Bradley defeated Sharpe and Robinson. Horne and Jones all square with Mcßride and Wilson. E. Sisson and Strange defeated Eade and Haley. Woodhead and Hucker lost to Kenderdine and Manson. Nelson and Workman defeated Sims and Hocking. Deverrell lost to Richards. Ladies' Four-Ball. Mesdames Boles and O'Callagl.an defeated Mrs. Urwin and Miss Gilligan; Mrs. Ongley and Miss Townsend defeated Mrs. Marshall and Miss Legge; Mrs. Bond and Miss Oldham lost to Mesdames Strachan and Marks; Mrs. Nelson and Miss C. Bradley defeated Miss Manson and Burrell; Misses Fitzherbert and Dewhirst defeated Misses J. and T. Anderson; Mesdames Hosking and Quinn defeated Mesdames White and 'fowler.

C. Kincaid president of the Taihape Club of-' ticially welcomed the visitors and referred to the cordial relationship existing between the two clubs. The speaker also took the oportunity of thanking the Taihape ladies for providing luncheon and afternoon tea. Mr. R. Marks, captain of the Waimarino club, replied on behalf of the visitors and thanked the Taihape club for its lavish hospitality. He said that no visiting team could have been treated better and went on to praise the Taihape ladies for their efforts in connection with the catering arrangements. Cheers were given for the ladies, and the donor of the “Cascade” cup, and a most enjoyable day was brought to a close. TAIHAPE LADIES’ GOLF CLUB. THE MAJESTIC "LAUGHING IRISH EYES" In “Laughing Irish Eyes” the new Republic production coming to the Majestic Theatre to-night, Phil Regan, famour radio tenor, who is starring in the picture with beautiful Evelyn Knapp, sings four songs the whole town will soon be whistling and humming. They are: “Laughing Irish Eyes,” “Bless You Darli:i’ Mother,” "All My Life,” “Londonderry Air.” On the same programme is an interesting subject, “The Dionne Quintuplets Third Birthday Party,” in which the famous Quints speak ana sing for the first time. GENERAL NEWS Attention is drawn to an advertisement in this issue regarding a dance to be held in the Town Hall, Taihape, on Labour night (Monday, October 25). The official opening of tly Taihape Bowling and Croquet Clubs will be held to-morrow (Thursday), afternoon, at 2 o'clock, regardless of weather conditions. All members and intneding members are cordially invited to attend. Members are requested to bring a basket. The monthly sitting of the Taihape Magistrate’s Court will be held before Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., to-morrow. In connection with the suggested borough housing scheme the special committee set up has reported that after giving the question full consideration, the committee is of the opinion that the present costs for housing construction are excessive, and it therefore has no recommendation to make. In his monthly report to the Taihape Borough Council, the health inspector (Mr W. H. Roy) advises that with reference to the council's request for reports on defective dwellings brought to notice following the recent survey of the borough, he wished to state that he had previously dealt with several of these dwellings. He would complete inspections and forward a separate report as soon as possible. The inspector also reported having visited the railway settlement

in Mataroa Road, and served 16 verbal requisitions in connection with unsuitable refuse containers, this completing a survey of refuse service throughout the borough. Six requisitions relating to defective conditions in and around dwellings have been served, three under habitations and three under nuisances. Entries for the Taihape Golf Club’s Labour Day tourney close with the secretary, Mr J. P. Mortland this evening (Wednesday). Those who intend to enter are advised to act without. delay. The Taihape District High School’s annual sports will be held on Thursday, October 28.
