VIOLENCE IN PALESTINE JEWISH AND ARAB VICTIMS FINE REIMPOSED ON LYDDA CITY (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Oct. 18, 9.15 p.m. JERUSALEM, Oct. 18. Widespread disorders and shooting continue in Palestine. The casualties include both Jews and Arabs. A Jewish boy, aged 11, was killed by shots from brigands at the Yemente settlement. Other Jews, British subjects, came under fire during several spasmodic attacks. The Arab Kamal Alami, who was recently recruited to the Police Investigation Department, was shot dead.

Children eye-witnesses told of a young Jewish tailor who was stabbed while sitting in a field reading. The children said an Arab stabbed him five times in the stomach. His condition is critical.

A bus carrying workers to Jerusalem after working in an American quarry near Motza was heavily fired on but there were no casualties. A Jewish motor-car travelling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was ambushed, shots causing the car to overturn. The driver and four passengers were injured, two se? iously. An ambulance arrived and was also fired on. The police replied wi’.’i a machine-gun, causing some casualties. A fine of £5OOO imposed on Lydda City in 1936 having been only partially collected, it has ben reimposed and the inhabitants confined to their houses except for two hours daily.
