BOUNTIFUL RAINS

AUSTRALIAN STATES BENEFIT Received Oct. 18, 10.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 18. Heavy soaking rain fell during the week-end over most of New South Wales benefiting the wheat crops, which are now expected to reach an estimated yield of between 45,000,000 and 50,000,000 bushels. The rain is still falling in southern parts and the rivers are rising. Reports from Melbourne state that the whole of Victoria has been . drenched and the rivers everywhere are swollen. There is serious danger of floods.

The greater part of South Australia had bountiful rains during the week-end.
